Picture with Amelia Earhart
The face and legacy of Amelia Earhart is resurfacing at theaters across the country. Richard Gere and Hilary Swank star in the 2009 film, titled "Amelia," which was released to the public on October 23rd.
One Zanesville woman says she’s excited to see it, especially since she got the chance to meet Earhart when she was 15-years-old.
Charlotte Love’s father was Muskingum County Sheriff back in the 1930’s and received a call that Earhart would be landing at Wheeler Field, which is now near the Walgreens on Maple Avenue, for gas.
So, the Sheriff took his daughter to meet the flying icon.
"She was very tan, freckled, and had that blonde, wavy hair. The joupers she always wore and the suede jackets, that was her uniform. She was very friendly, and she was passing out beach nut chewing gum to the crowd because that was the sponsor of her trip, " says Love.
Love got to take a picture with Earhart, which she still holds on to.
"She came over to talk to me and said, ‘Would you like to take a ride?’ I looked at that thing she was flying, and I said thank you but I don’t believe I will. I have thought several times since then that I should have, " says Love.
Love says it was probably a good decision, considering she found out later Earhart crashed two weeks before their encounter and two weeks after.
Love’s encounter with Earhart was about five years before her disappearance.
