ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â There was a big crowd gathered outside the court house in downtown Zanesville Tuesday and it was not for what you might be thinking.
The community came together to support Operation Feed with a friendly pie throwing contest. Local celebrities from the commissioners office, fire department, and prominent community members volunteered to get pied in the face.
“It’s a day of celebration,” said Christ’s Table Executive Director Keely Warden. “It’s a day of wrapping up our Operation Feed campaign. We’ve had so many volunteers that have been working so hard on this campaign. This is the day that it all comes together.”
The pies started flying at noon at the Court House Square. This year more than 20 people received whipped cream pies in the face which helped raise more than $2,600.
“It’s very personal for me,” Warden said. “Not everybody gets to see the impact that the Hunger Network does have for this community everyday. I am blessed to see that everyday. I’m blessed to work at Christ’s Table and to be able to see the smiles on the faces when people come in and get a hot meal.”
Warden said in 2015, 953,000 meals was provide to Muskingum County through the 15 food pantries and 4 hot meal programs.
