Pillow Case Dresses Helping the World

Pillow Case Dresses Helping The World

You think of pillows on a bed, a couch or to use while traveling but, one Zanesville woman is taking pillow cases to other countries… in the form of dresses through the " Dress a Girl Around the World: campaign. See video to the left.

"It’s very basic as far as cutting the seems, putting in a bit of elastic and putting on ties. Embellishing it will bows and whatever it takes to make a little girl feel special," said volunteer Gail Williams,

Gail Williams thought this project would be the perfect way to use her sewing skills. So, at the beginning of February she began making dresses. She asked her church to help and knew a few members could sew but, never thought she would receive so much support.

"I have been very surprised by the response not only by members of our church but, by people in the community. We’ve had a Girl Scout Troop, there is a local 4H club that is interested in doing their yearly service project with ours," said Williams.

They suggest using a gently used pillow case or 1 yard of fabric. Each dress takes about an hour to create. Williams enjoys adding buttons and bows to make her own and feels wonderful about what she is doing.

"The saying is true that when you give you are truly blessed and I have just received such a blessing because every dress I make I just think that is really cute, no that is really cute and to think that it will help some little girl feel better about herself is really a blessing" said Williams.

Dress instructions are available at North Terrace Church of Christ on Brandywine Blvd. She is collecting through March. Completed dresses can be dropped off in the church lobby.
