Pioneers Win Final Game of Y-City Bash
At Noon, the Junior Pioneers knew they had to win in order to remain in contention for the Y-City Bash Title. Zanesville answered the challenge, mixing timely hitting, masterful pitching, and some of the best defensive plays that can be seen at any level for a 4-1 win over Altoona. It started on the mound with Branden Smith, who had a perfect game after 5 innings of play, surrendering only one hit in 6. Alex Cultice had two RBI’s in the first inning, and it turned out to be enough thanks to a great defensive showing. Unfortunately, the Junior Pioneers cannot call themselves champions. Toloedo-Michigan, who beat Zanesville yesterday 5-4, handled Cleveland 11-1 to take the title.
