Police investigate Dairy Mart shooting

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Police Department investigates an overnight shooting that was near Dairy Mart located at 714 Pine Street.
January 10, 2017 around 11:15 P.M. Zanesville Police department received a call about shots being fired. Upon arrival officers found a woman who was an innocent bystander had been shot in the leg. The injured woman was transported to Genesis Hospital and later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. The woman was in her early 60’s, her name was not released, and her injuries are not life-threatening. Chief Tony Coury said they are currently investigating the shooting.
“We don’t have a whole lot to go on right now,” Chief Coury said. “We do believe there may have been an altercation or some words exchanged. There was a vehicle that left the parking lot or was near the parking lot as they were leaving. There was four to five shots fired.”
Chief Coury explained they currently do not have any suspects nor a suspect vehicle. However, there was another vehicle that was hit at the scene and it’s being held for evidence.
“We collected the video from the store, we’re going to interview as many people as we can,” Chief Coury said. “We’ll follow-up on leads and eventually we’ll get them, we hope. Right now there is very little to go on.”
Chief Coury said the police department will reach out to the Dairy Marts owners to get further information and see what else can be done to ensure the safety of that neighborhood.
“We are in no way blaming the store for what has taken place,” Chief Coury said. “I believe that at some point last night the Dairy Mart employees were actually outside trying to move people when this took place. So they have done what we’ve asked and they are willing participants in trying to help in the situation we have.”
Those with any information regarding the shooting at the Dairy Mart can call the Zanesville Police Department’s Tip-line by calling (740) 455-0712 or their main line at (740) 455-0700.
