Police Involved Shooting in Kirkersville/Four Dead

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a police involved shooting  that took place Friday morning in Kirkersville.  There were four people killed including the gunman.  Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Disario was killed in an ambush shooting.  The gunman reportedly turned the gun on himself.  It happened at the Pine Kirk Care Center which is near Heath.

The Sheriff’s Office said on their Facebook page, “Tragic day. Thanks to all the law enforcement and medics that are a part of this fluid scene.”

A local elementary school was put on lock down and parents were told they could pick up their children at a nearby middle school.

Governor John Kasich said on the situation, “Shocked and pained by the horrific shooting in Kirkersville, ask for prayers for those injured. Grateful for law enforcement’s quick response.”

Investigators say there is no longer an active threat to the community.  The incident remains under investigation.
