Police: Man fired at Toledo police, was shot, wounded

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A man fired repeatedly at police officers in the parking lot of a northwest Toledo apartment complex and was shot and wounded by an officer, police said.
Toledo police said three officers responded to the Secor Woods Apartments near the Michigan state line shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday after a report of a person screaming in the parking lot.
Police said a man came to the building entrance with a gun in his hand and fired at officers, shooting into the window of a police car. One officer fired and is believed to have hit the suspect, who re-entered the apartment building and fired one or more rounds before exiting the rear of the building, police said.
The man then fired more rounds at officers and the same officer returned fire, again striking the suspect, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of at least two gunshot wounds. Police said his firearm was recovered. The man’s child was found inside his apartment, unharmed, and was released to his mother.
There was no immediate word on the man’s condition and his name wasn’t immediately released.
The police chief is to hold a news conference Monday during which body-worn camera footage, 911 calls and other information will be released, police said.
