Police shoot, wound armed man who fatally injured woman

ORRVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Police shot and wounded an armed man as he stood over an unconscious woman who had been badly injured at an apartment complex in northeastern Ohio.
The shooting in Orrville occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police responding to a 911 call at the French Village complex found Kenneth Crenshaw, 33, of Maple Heights, holding a gun as he stood over Jadea Jarvis, 25, who was bleeding profusely in the complex’s parking lot. The officers drew their guns and ordered Crenshaw to drop his weapon, but he ignored their directives and repeatedly told the officers to shoot him, authorities said.
At least one officer eventually fired, and Crenshaw was hit in the right arm. He was treated at a hospital for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
Jarvis, who lived at the complex, was also taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later. Authorities have not said how she was injured or if she knew Crenshaw, who was charged with aggravated murder. It wasn’t known Thursday if he has retained an attorney.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The three Orrville officers who responded to the call have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, which is standard procedure in such shootings.
