ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Port Authority held its monthly meeting at the Welcome Center this morning to discuss economic development in the county.

Port Authority Executive Director Matt Abbott said the board discussed several grants, both federal and state, that they applied for. The grants will help develop infrastructure in the county.

“The next step is to finish the application process. You know a few years ago we had site selectors come into our community and basically give us a full out evaluation,” said Abbott. “And, you know, some of those areas of focus was creating sites that are available for businesses to locate and also creating buildings for companies to come in and locate.”

If the board receives the grants they will be able to move forward with development projects which will help create new businesses bringing money into the county.

“Part of that comes infrastructure and the county and city have made significant investments since that time in infrastructure to allow us the capabilities to develop land and work to develop buildings and bring more jobs to our community,” said Abbott.

Port Authority members also moved to amend the establishing bylaws updating them to “meet the current structure and need of the” boards daily operations.
