Port Authority Discusses Business Park Development Progress

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As businesses are relocating their operations to Ohio’s business friendly climate, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority is strategizing ways to capitalize on the impact those opportunities can make, right here locally.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director Eric Reed shared details from their January meeting that addressed creating and maintaining a proactive engagement concerning the area’s future growth development.

“We recently released our new marketing videos in partnership with  the other entities here in the Welcome Center,” Reed said. “These marketing videos are tools that we use to as we… you know work to attract business, retain business. It’s hard for someone to see that all in one day or one visit. So to have that captured in a video or various videos makes it efficient for us to communicate the benefits and the positive things that Muskingum County has to offer.”

The National Road Business Park has made significant progress and now houses its first tenant in the Marker Building, while excavation work to expand the business park for further development is set to take place later in the year. However, the National Road Business Park isn’t the only development that’s happening in 2026.

“The Eastpointe rail spur expansion, we currently have three spurs and are adding two more to get to five for local business that bring in product on railcar and then truck to the facility,” Reed said. “There’s been some expanded production in the area and the demand for rail sighting has been prominent for a while and we were fortunate to get a Rail Commission grant to aid in the project and felt it was an investment beneficial to our area to provide for economic development.”

The Port Authority has purchased the properties for the business parks and began their development mainly through various grant funding. Now that the infrastructure is largely in place, it’s time to promote the advantages that businesses can utilize by investing in Muskingum County.
