Port Authority Presses Forward

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority was established to coordinate local efforts toward garnering economic development and growth.
Port Authority Executive Director Eric Reed explained how their monthly board meetings keep stakeholders in the loop as well as speculate steps they’ll need to take toward attaining success in the future.
“We had our February meeting today to update the board on current projects that are taking place under the Port Authority’s management. As well as looked at some end-of-year metrics as it relates to workforce… you know training opportunities, you know jobs available, investment opportunities that we look forward, as the year progresses. As well as, you know just some plans for the year,” Reed said.
The workforce metrics that were discussed centered around employment and residential commuting statistics that focus on daily commute routines. The metrics information allows the port authority to find ways that will mitigate some of the challenges that may prevent employers from relocating or expanding. The meeting also shared current project standings.
“Just updates to the transloading rail station project that’s underway at Eastpointe Business Park, as well as the mass grading, building pad project at National Road Business Park, which we will be collecting bids before the end of the month. This is a project that is associated with the All Ohio Future Fund award that the Port Authority received in 2025,” Reed said.
Both projects that were discussed during the meeting are aimed at enhancing the tenants’ accessibility and usability, which adds value and appeal for business operations taking place here in Muskingum County.
