Port Authority Readies Northpointe Tract

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — A site on Northpointe Drive, on Zanesville’s north side, may be the next development for the Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority. Their Executive Director says there is a housing need in Muskingum County.

“A housing study was recently completed by the City of Zanesville and definitely found that there is a need. In the past ten years, our workforce has increased by a little over 11%, which the state average was a little over 3%. We’ve seen a hike as far as that’s concerned. Also, we receive about 14,000 people on a daily basis that travel to Muskingum County on a daily basis for work,” says Matt Abbott, Port Authority Executive Director.

The property, Abbott says, is prime for development and is good for mixed-use with office and/or retail space at the ground floor and residential on upper floors. Abbott points out the ultimate use of the parcel is up to the developer who purchases the land.

“Directly north of the Primrose Retirement Community, between Primrose and the John Deere dealership. So there’s not only the 17 acres that the Port Authority controls, there’s private sector land that’s adjacent to that. The site is relatively flat. There’s access off of Northpointe. You see the traffic counts, everything that needs to take place to make a good multi-use, multi-family investment there,” Abbot says.
