Powered Sugar Tradition at the Guernsey County Fair

OLD WASHINGTON, OH – The Guernsey County Fair is in full swing, and one sweet classic that’s dusted in powdered sugar, never goes out of style.
One funnel cake stand sits right in front of the grandstand, preparing fresh desserts every day of the fair. With hot oil bubbling and powdered sugar ready to go, their team makes sure each funnel cake is just right.
“A lot of work goes into it. We got to get a lot of stock. We sell lemonade, sweet tea, we make our dough from scratch. We make our funnel cake mix and everything from scratch. So, there’s a lot that goes into it before we come out.” Dayshon Herrieg, a food vendor worker, said.
For the workers, it’s not just about frying dough, it’s about creating a little happiness with every dessert they hand over.
“We have good customer service. We make sure we give the customers exactly what they need, and we put a lot of love into it.” Herrieg said. “Come to the Guernsey County Fair this weekend and we will make you happy. We sit right in front of the grandstands.” Sweet Jo, owner of the vendor, said.
The Guernsey County Fair runs through Sunday. For a full list of events and schedules, you can visit their website.
