Previous Mayor Talks Current State of Affairs

The first female mayor of Zanesville speaks on the current state of the city.

Marilyn Swope was mayor of Zanesville from 1992 through 1996 and responsible for creating a Million Dollar Rainy Day Fund for Zanesville as well as establishing various events in the community such as the Winterfest Celebration. She says that the current mayor is doing a great, job but we live in a difficult time.

"I really think that it’s stable at this time. Money is short every place in the nation and there’s such a difference between those who have and those who have not, " said Swope.

Swope hopes that these issues can be addressed nationally and locally. Since her days as mayor Swope has stayed active in the women initiative network, she also teaches quilting classes and is still active in AAUW a group that aims to empower women.
