Primary election voting information
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- We’re less than two months away from the primary election and the Board of Elections has important information for voters.
Board of Elections Director, Tim Thompson, said voters in the 12th Congressional District will see names appear on the ballot twice. He said voters will vote for a candidate to fill the vacant Congressional seat.
“They have to vote for a candidate to fill the unexpired term which ends January 3rd, 2019. And then they also have to vote for a candidate to run for the full term which starts in January 3rd, 2019,” said Thompson. “So what happens is there’s a special primary election for the unexpired term and then there’s a regular primary to fill the full term that will be coming up in January.”
Thompson said anyone planning on voting in the election will need to register by April 9th. He said the office will have extended hours to accommodate voters who work during the day.
“Early voting will start April 10th. So we will then at that…on April 10th we’ll mail out the ballots…to the voters who already made application to us. So voters can come into the office and vote. They can request a ballot to be mailed to them. So it gives every opportunity for voters to vote.”
The primary election will take place May 8th. To see a sample ballot you can visit the Board of Elections website.
