Properties across the city are ready to be demolished

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Land Reutilization Corporation is a non-profit exists to rehabilitate abandoned properties so they can benefit the community and today they set several projects into motion.

Several locations are being checked for asbestos which has to be removed before any demolition can take place. Several properties throughout Zanesville are slated for demolition to be made usable for future development. Locations include First United Methodist Church on Putnam Avenue and several houses across the city.

“So, with every demolition project that we try and accomplish redevelopment with the sight. So, we try not to do demolition just for the sake of demolition. The goal is to get the land cleaned off, get it back into productive use and get something else built on it. ”

All of this work is made possible through grants issued by the state of Ohio. Specifically the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program which awarded the group with $ 3.6 million last year.

“Those monies are very important to us because it allows us to do more work with putting out less expenditure of capital locally.”

Examples of previous projects include the demolition of the Mosaic Tile site where the renovated property will become location of a new county jail.
