Protest Fails in Noble County

Noble County Sheriff Stephen Hannum will be allowed to run in the November Election as a write-in candidate.

Hannum’s opponent, Caldwell Chief of Police-Denny Knowlton-filed a protest with the Board of Elections to keep the sheriff off the ballot, citing that Hannum does not meet the proper qualification to run for the position, but board members voted to have the protest fail. In a statement, board members explain that Hannum meets all the needed education requirements.

Knowlton initially filed a petition back in February to have Hannum removed from the May Primary ballot. The Ohio Supreme Court did eventually rule a month later in Knowlton’s favor, and he ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
