Public Records Department Full

The Public Records Department downtown has stacks of documents from the floor to the ceiling.

Public Records Coordinator Mitzi Shook said they can’t fit anymore documents in the building so they are working on going paperless.

"We are having a demonstration for scanning to get our paper records in a scanned format for public use. This will make it simpler because we have a lot of records on paper and we are at capacity at the Records Center. It will just cut down on space and make it easier for retrieval for our office and our office holders," Shook said.

Shook said they want to be able to scan all the documents and store them in the computer. So when a office worker wants to look up a document they can right from their computer instead of sifting through boxes and folders.

"When your sitting at your desk and you need a case record and you have to call the record center and we have to retrieve the records. This allows them to just be able to just punch up a number or a case number or a name and pull it up at their desk top. Then they make a copy of it," Shook said.

She said it will save them a lot of work, time, and space. The Public Records Department on 5th Street will hold another meeting to discuss moving forward with this techonolgy.
