Putnam Avenue opened after 911 Call

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Putnam Avenue is now open after Zanesville Police Department along with other local law enforcement responded to a 911 call for 547 Putnam Ave and closed the street.
Friday June 23, 2017 Putnam Avenue was closed from Madison Avenue to Harrison Madison Avenue. Businesses and households in that area were asked to be locked down and everyone was asked to stay away from the area.
Chief Tony Coury said the initial call claimed there was a subject on the top floor of the apartment building shooting a long rifle believed to be a 22 caliber. Zanesville Police Department’s Special Response Team swarmed the building and cleared it. No gun or person was located in the building during that time.

“Right now we’re unsure of what was making the sound,” said Chief Coury. “We believe now it could be some kind of electrical issue or an electrical box making popping noises. We went ahead and asked the Code Enforcement for the City of Zanesville to come in to take a look at the building. If it is an electrical issue, if there is popping then of course that is a safety hazard for all occupants.”
Salvation Army and Red Cross has been asked to relocate the residents of 547 Putnam Avenue if the building is deemed unsafe.
Zanesville Police Department Swat Team , Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Zanesville Fire Department, Zanesville Code Enforcement, Zanesville Safety Director, and Mayor Jeff Tilton responded to the incident.
