Raising Awareness of Suicide in SE Ohio
This week is National Suicide Prevention Week and Muskingum County is doing its part to raise awareness of the issue.
New signs about suicide prevention and what to do if you feel suicidal have been placed in various locations across the county. The new signs are a little more eye catching to grab your attention of the issue.
"They were kind of getting weathered so we wanted to get something new out there that would get attention and draw attention to suicide prevention," said Muskingum County Suicide Prevention Coalition Member Bonnie Taylor.
Taylor says given the state of the economy and people losing their jobs theres been an increase in suicide deaths in southeast Ohio, but things can get better.
"If you are feeling alone and suicidal, there are people out there that are willing to come together and help you reach out to you and help you in whatever way they can," said Taylor.
The new signs will stay up all month and are made possible through a grant from the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation. Several organizations in the county have also contributed to the project.
