Rambo Memorial Health Receives Grant
ZANESVILLE, OH – A local health center was awarded a grant for the very first time.
Rambo Memorial Health was recently recognized by the Ohio Department of Health for the care they provided to a patient with tuberculosis.
Shannon Bell, the Executive Director of Rambo, said that within the last few years, there was an active case of TB present here in Muskingum County.
She said that the patient responded very well to the medication that was prescribed over the course of many months.
Bell said because of how well they responded to the TB case and the care they provided to the patient, they were awarded with a grant for $3,880, for the first time ever.
“The first thing I did when I heard about it was, I told my staff that this was going to happen,” Bell said. “I’m so proud of them, I’m so proud of all of us, and not to sound silly, but we kept that patient alive. We were able to be there, we were able to provide the care and really, that’s the most important thing.”
Bell said the most common misconception about TB is that it’s a rare occurrence, but that’s not the case. She said TB is an active illness and it could just be hiding dormant in your body.
“We try to do screening all the time to try to find people with this,” Bell said. “To know that we did such a great job, we did what we were supposed to do, and like I said, we were able to help the patient and they were able to survive tuberculosis, I mean, that’s huge.”
