ZANESVILLE, Ohio — If you’re in the need for a new challenge, look no further than the Muskingum Recreation Center later this month.

On April 29th the Rec Center will be hosting a triathlon for both members and non-members. The event, which combines a variety of physical activities, will include a 10-minute swim, 30-minute bike, and ends with a 5-k run.

“We have been preparing the whole month of March and April for the triathlon that will be on Saturday, April 29th. We started off the training period with a triathlon class, our enrollees are practicing each week swimming, cycling, and running,” said Libby Hardwick, the Aquatics and Sports Manager at the Rec Center.

This is the third year that the Rec Center has hosted a triathlon, but the first in which portions of it which actually be completed indoors. On the day of the triathlon, participants will be given a start time in thirty-minute waves so that there are not too many people in the pool at or in the cycling room at one time.

The Rec Center hopes to receive more registrations through the month of April as they encourage health and wellness within the community.

“Health and wellness is everyone’s top priority or hopefully should be, but it’s going to help your overall self-esteem, it’s going to help you sleep better at night, it’s going to help you feel better about yourself,” added Hardwick.

The first wave begins at 9:30AM on the 29th. Registration is $45.00 for members, and $55.00 for non-members. You must register by the 14th to be guaranteed a shirt, but online registrations will be honored through the 21st.
