Red Cross asks for volunteers to send to West Virginia

NORWICH, Ohio – The flooding in West Virginia has created a large need for volunteers and now the Ohio Buckeye Region of the Red Cross is looking for help.
So far the local chapter has sent 19 people to the Mountaineer State to help but Executive Director Marlene Henderson said they always are in need of more volunteers.
“We are always looking for volunteers and people that are looking to step up and make a difference,” said Henderson. “Your time can be as little as a couple weeks or as much as you want.”
Training classes will be offered at their Newark branch on July 7 at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30. Henderson said that at the classes volunteers will learn valuable skills they need to make a difference for those affected in West Virginia.
Henderson said with the recent wave of rain that hit the state this weekend, things are just getting worse.
“It doesn’t look like anything is getting better at all. I think they had 44 counties that were declared and it’s absolutely devastating,” said Henderson. “They said it’s the worst flood they’ve had in 100 years.”
