Red Cross Blood Drive

Experts say one out of every ten people admitted to the hospital needs blood.

A Red Cross blood drive was held at the Perry Township Fire Department Wednesday afternoon and is held twice a year. Coordinator Paula Lively said after her traumatic experience during surgery, she realized the importance of donating. 

"I had a hysterectomy and almost bled to death during the hysterectomy and so I had two blood transfusions," she said.

Reports show that 14 million blood transfusions are given each year. Blood donations help a variety of patients in need including those with injuries, burn victims and also cancer patients. Heather Nosf said it has helped her father.

"My dad has been sick since I was little and he’s needed several blood transfusions, so I just feel that ten minutes of my time to save three people is a good reason," she said.

There was also a drawing for a $1,000 gift card to Easton Mall in Columbus, two tickets to the Sugar Bowl to see the Buckeyes play, and free t-shirts.

Another blood drive will be held at Secrest Auditorium in Zanesville on December 30th.
