ZANESVILLE, Ohio- To celebrate 100 years of service, the Red Cross of Southeast Ohio strived to collect 100 units of blood.

A blood drive was held at Zanesville High School, and one well known Blue Devil made sure that she participated to set the standard.

“I think it’s very important to give back to the community and I think giving blood is something easy that everyone can do if it’s a possibility for them, you know with age and weight and medications, so if you’re an eligible donor I think it’s very important to donate,” said Laura Tompkins, Zanesville High School principal.

Tompkins said that hosting the event was also a way for the high school as a whole to serve the city and reincorporate into the community.

“I think that we’ve gotten away from schools being in the center of the community so I think bringing things back to Zanesville High School is going to make us an integral part of the community,” said Tompkins.

The high school hosts a blood drive three times a school year, but this is the first time they hosted one during summer break.
