Red Cross in Need of Volunteers for Sound the Alarm Campaign

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Red Cross of Central and Southern Ohio is gearing up for their annual Sound the Alarm Campaign.

Don Hawkins, Regional Communications Manager with the American Red Cross Central and Southern Region, said that this campaign is meant to help reduce home fire deaths and injuries.

He said that volunteers will go around to surrounding communities and help provide disaster preparedness information, home fire safety instructions, and new fire alarms if your home needs it.

“If you don’t have an up to date and working smoke alarm, you are putting you and your family at risk,” Hawkins said. “It’s something you do not want to mess with. You want to know if a fire is breaking out in your home, you are getting the most up to date warnings about that.”

Hawkins said since its inception in 2014, the Sound the Alarm Campaign has saved approximately 36,000 families from a house fire.

He said those who volunteer for this campaign are helping to make their community safer from a disaster.

“You’re helping the folks in your community that need it,” Hawkins said. “Maybe it’s a family that’s got three kids and they have a million other things going on. You can go in, knock that out for them, and let them feel safer.”

The Sound the Alarm Campaign will head to McConnelsville on April 13th from 10 to 1PM.
