Red Cross of Southeast Ohio Ready With Storm Volunteers

NORWICH, Ohio – The American Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio is ready to send some volunteers to the Atlantic coast to help with Hurricane Dorian.
“Our hearts go out to the people of the Bahamas. It’s been very bad down there. Water is being contaminated, homes are being destroyed and the storm is still hanging out around there. The storm is very unpredictable as we all know,” said Executive Director, Matthew Riddle.
Riddle said the volunteers have been trained in disaster recovery procedures.
“Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, millions of people can be impacted by this storm, so for the Red Cross it’s hard for us to kind of figure out how to get people down there. Do we go early just in case, or do we kind of wait and see. We’re doing kind of a little bit of both. So far, 14 people have been deployed from our Columbus region and two have been from Southeast Ohio,” he added.
You can give to the Red Cross by texting “REDCROSS” to the number “90999.”
