Reminder: Drug Take Back Drop Off
Just a reminder that tomorrow is the drug take back drop off at Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department.
Northside Pharmacy, Genesis Hospital, the Muskingum Behavioral Health and even a local recycling plant are all collaborating so locals can quickly and anonymously drop off prescription drugs not being used, in hopes to prevent them from falling in the wrong hands. A plus side: you don’t even have to get out of your car.
“Of course here in Muskingum County we’re so used to taking things to the next level because we have great cooperation and collaboration. So, most places when you bring the pills in you have to take them out of the pill bottle and they just take the pills. They don’t take sharps, as in needles, and they don’t take liquids. Well here we do it all, we have great communication and cooperation” explains sheriff Matt Lutz.
Sheriff Lutz says they expect to see all types of medications but with the increase of accidental overdoses in the state of Ohio he hopes most of all, they’re able to take prescription pain medicines out of people’s hands and in the long-run off the street.
“It’s very important because we’ve had break ins of homes where people will go in and they’ll go through medicine cabinets looking for those types of drugs because a.) they’re users of those types of drugs or they can sell them on the street and get them into the wrong hands. So, the whole key is again, the focus of our job is to try to make our streets as safe as possible.”
The drop off will be from 10 a.m to 2 p.m but if you can’t make it, there is a permanent drug take back box located at the jail 24/7, no questions asked.
