Renovations coming to downtown Zanesville

Downtown Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Downtown Zanesville is going to be seeing some changes in the near future.

The Zanesville Downtown Association hosted a tour of the 600 block of Main Street two weeks ago and since then, three properties have sold and two more are still for sale. President of the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Dana Matz, said it’s exciting because they’ve seen improvements through downtown and it continues to spread out and grow.

“So the more people we have living and working in downtown, the more services that will be demanded,” explained Matz, “So, what we’ll see out of that is small shops opening up that can serve the folks that are living and working in downtown.”

Matz said they need to continue the growth of residential units. Their goal is to have downtown running on 18 hour days, not just from 8 to 5. Matz said they plan to encourage more restaurants to come downtown. The most recent restaurants that have been added are Zak’s Restaurant and VinAmi, which is having their grand opening this weekend.

“We’re happy that people are investing in the downtown,” Matz said. “It’s a different crowd, and by different crowd, it takes a special person to want to buy an old building and fix it up.”

Matz said the Zanesville Downtown Association is a membership organization and they are currently selling memberships. You can visit their Facebook page for more information.
