ResponsibleOhio Makes Stop in Zanesville

The ResponsibleOhio Green Rush Bus Tour made a stop in Zanesville Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the pro-marijuana group are on a bus tour to educate the public about Issue 3, the initiative to legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational use. The green bus is expected to make more than 150 stops in different towns and colleges across the state, and they aren’t just visiting to raise awareness, they’re also registering young voters.

“It would bring about 10,000 jobs to the state, billions of dollars in new tax revenue, as well as providing all of the medicinal benefits of marijuana to sick Ohioans,” said ResponsibleOhio Spokesperson, Michael McGovern.

Issue 3 would legalize pot with a constitutional amendment allowing only 10 specific growing sites in Ohio. The proposal would make Ohio the fifth state to legalize marijuana, but there are many concerns among those in opposition, one of them being the fear of a monopoly.

“That’s largely been misrepresented based on our research, we found that the best way to start this and to regulate it well, and to regulate it safely, and to do it right, was to have 10 initial sites that would growing marijuana for sale and dispensary, but what the folks who are kind of throwing that argument around don’t mention is that number will expand,” McGovern said.

Voters will be asked to decide on issue three on November 3. The deadline to register to vote for the election is October 5.
