Rheta M. Powell, 91, of Zanesville, passed away at 5:19 a.m. on Friday April 3, 2026 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House following an extended illness. She was born on December 10, 1934 in Roseville, a daughter of the late Claude and Violet Bash. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roseville where she sang in the choir and played the handbells. She was a member of Amrou Caldron #23 of Zanesville, where she was past Mighty Chosen One. Member of Muskingum Chapter #485, OES of Zanesville. Hobbies include playing dominoes with family, cards with church friends, doing word search puzzles, watching the Food Network and Hallmark movies. She was also an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years James E. Powell, whom she married on June 15, 1952 and he passed on November 7, 2008. Two brothers Les (Thelma) Bash and David (Ruth) Bash. Brother-in-law John Hina.

She is survived by two sons Randy Powell of Zanesville and Keith ( Judy) Powell of South Carolina. One daughter Lori (Tom) VanHorn. Grandsons Eric (Darlene) Powell of Zanesville, C.W. (Abby St. Hilare) Powell of South Carolina, and Jimmy (Amber) Powell of South Carolina. Granddaughter Sarah VanHorn of Columbus. 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-greatgranddaughter. One sister Rose Hina. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to express thanks to Shriver’s Hospice and Genesis Hospice for their exceptional care during the past several months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Church in Roseville.

Friends may call from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. Tuesday April 7, 2026 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday April 8, 2026. Pastor Joe Rowland officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Union Cemetery.
