Richard Thomas “Dick” Carnes, 86, a well-known area Funeral Director, Coach, and Businessman of Zanesville passed away on Friday November 15, 2024 at Genesis Hospital.
Dick was born in Glenmont, West Virginia on August 23, 1938. After graduating High School he attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1962. In 1968 his career brought him to Zanesville to work as a Funeral Director and Embalmer for Bolin Funeral Home. He retired from Bolin Funeral Home in 1987 where he had served as Vice-President for many years. In 1987, he started Advanced Ambulance where he was the co-owner. From 1972 to 2002 Dick spent the summers coaching Y-City Little League Baseball, South Rebels Football, and umpiring baseball and softball games. Sports were his passion, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Cleveland Browns. He was a longtime member of Central Presbyterian Church in Zanesville, Sertoma, the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Embalmers Association, and National Funeral Directors Association.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Glover Carnes whom he married February 23, 1960, four children: Ty (Tracey) Carnes, Scott (Carolyn) Carnes, Crissy Carnes, and Chad Carnes, Four grandchildren: Ty (Samantha) Carnes Jr., Cole Carnes, Katelyn Carnes, and Danielle Carnes, a great granddaughter Lilly, and his beloved dog, Kreig.
