Richard Simpson

Richard Lee Simpson, who was born on March 10th, 1946, passed away on January 15th, 2025, after a long illness, at Aultman hospital in Canton Ohio.

Richard was born in Cumberland, Ohio but lived most of his life in Uhrichsville and then Newcomerstown. Richard was the oldest of 16 children. He worked for many years at Alsco Anaconda but retired from Empire Plastics after 10 years.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Andrew and Marguerite and his stepmother Dorothy. He was also preceded in death by siblings Freddie, Mona, Marva, James, Andrew Jr., Tony, and Regina, his first wife Virger, and his second wife Carole.

He is survived and loved by his children: Michael (Michelle) Simpson of Zanesville, Ohio; Steve (Amy) Simpson of Dover Ohio; Jessica Newman of Newcomerstown Ohio, Ryan (Helen) Simpson of Zanesville Ohio, Rochelle Simpson of Newcomerstown, and Dannette Bowers of Canton.

His surviving siblings are Sharon Rogers (Zanesville); Tyrone (Brenda) Simpson (Millersburg); Connie Alexander (Canton); Margo Simpson (Canton); Kim Malone (South Carolina) Rebecca Simpson (Canton); and Barbara Simpson (New Philadelphia). Richard also had 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who loved and adored him. Last but not least, he had a host of many nieces and nephews and cousins who adored him as well.

Richard enjoyed playing basketball and softball and played for many years on a softball team in Newcomerstown. He was a strong man and could hit the ball a country mile. He was a hard worker and loved life and his family!

Friends and Family may call from 11am until 12pm on Wednesday January 22, 2025 with funeral services starting at 12 pm. Rev. Nathan Womack will be officiating the service. Burrell Funeral Service at 414 La Salle St., Zanesville, Ohio is serving the family.

A repass dinner will be held following the service at St Paul AME Church 561 Pine St. Zanesville, Ohio 43701
