SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Riesbeck’s in South Zanesville is getting ready for its yearly summer safety event.

This is the fifth year they have put on the event to educate the public about summertime do’s and don’ts. Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office, the Animal Shelter Society, Genesis HealthCare, and the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department will be there for safety demonstrations.

Jane Dombroski with Riesbeck’s said this is a great way to learn about safety while having fun.

“Past years it has gone great,” said Dombroski. “As we go on it’s gotten bigger and bigger. There is more awareness that the event will be taking place. Everything is free except for [Animal Shelter microchipping your pets]. There are goodies for you to take. There’s a little for everyone so please stop by.”

Among topics covered will be swimming, sun, and food safety. Sheriff’s deputies will be there to take pictures of children and print identification cards in case your child gets lost. Sheriff Matt Lutz said it’s free to do and very important especially with the Muskingum County fair coming up.

Jessica Emerick of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department will be there to talk about motorcycle safety.

“We’re going to be talking about looking out for motorcycles. We want them to be safe. We are going to be talking about motorcycles safety. About staying sober when you are driving because we know in the summer months motorcycles are very popular and we want everyone to be safe,” said Emerick.

The event is this Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Riesbeck’s in South Zanesville.
