Rotary hunger bags to feed elementary students

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Many children rely on free meals at school, such as lunch and breakfast, but they don’t always know when their next meal will be. This is especially difficult for them over the school breaks when they may not get a chance to eat at all.
The Zanesville Noon Rotary Club is working to make sure students will have some food to take home at the start of summer break. The club gathered after their meeting today to assemble bags of food to give the children.
“Certainly when kids are going home over spring break and over the summer months we want to make sure that they have a certain supply of food that they can take with them,” said Kyle Witucky the President-Elect of the Zanesville Noon Rotary Club. “We provided, there’s canned fruits and vegetables. Macaroni, ravioli – macaroni and cheese and ravioli – cereal.”
Current President of Noon Rotary, Don Mason, said around 250 children will receive the bags of food. He said this is possible through the fundraisers the club holds throughout the year. Now the club is gearing up for a fundraiser that will help make the hunger bags possible next year.
“The Zanesville Rotary Club will be sponsoring a 5k in order to raise money for our now annual food drive to feed the elementary students at the three elementary students serving our Zanesville community,” said Mason.
The 5k run will be June 3rd. You can find registration and other information on the run on the Rotary Club website.
