Roy J. “Pete” Peterman, Jr (July 29, 1943 – September 1, 2009)

Roy J. “Pete” Peterman, Jr , 66 of Zanesville, died 5:25 PM Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at the Ohio State University Hospital. He was born Thursday, July 29, 1943 in New Bloomfield PA the son of Roy J Peterman, Sr and Ida Elizabeth(Cassett) Peterman. He was married on Saturday, December 27, 1969 to JoAnn ( Hepburn ) Peterman . Pete was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church . Served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. Pete was retired in 1998 from the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a computer technican following 25 years service. He was a retired Commander with the U.S. Navy having received the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other commendations. He was a mathmatics teacher at Zane State College, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 505, Zanesville Singers, VFW Post #1028, the Association of Naval Aviation and served as an usher at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Pete is survived by his wife of the home; 2 daughters: Amber (Justin) Godfrey of Fort Meade, MD and Carrie (Richard) Nameth of Gulf Breeze, FL; 2 sons: Brett Peterman of Atlanta, GA and Darin (Katie) Peterman of Mount Liberty, OH; 9 grandchildren: Tyler, Emily, Tate, Meaghan, Alexa, Nicholas, Patrick, Nathan and Elizabeth; 2 brothers: Gary (Joyce) Peterman of Grass Valley, CA and Keith (Trish) Peterman of York, PA; He was preceded in death by his mother and a grandson, Joey Nameth. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue with the Christian Vigil Service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 07, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr. Jordan Turano, O.P. celebrant . Burial will be held at a later date at Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s name to St. Thomas Catholic Church or the Disabled American Veterans.
