Safety Tips for your Pets during the Holidays
As you prepare for the holidays it very important to keep your pets in mind.
The holidays can be a tough time for our furry friends but, registered Veterinarian Tech Brittany Kennedy told us there are ways to ensure safety for your animals.
“Christmas tree is always fun. You have lights, tinsels and ornaments and it’s just a playground for cats. I am sure everyone that owns a cat knows that. If you want to make sure that it is cat friendly, tinsel is not a good option if you have a cat or a kitten that is going to eat a lot of the ornaments. They can cause intestinal blockages that can kill your cat. They are life threatening. So you definitely want to keep the tinsel off the tree and ornaments that could break if they play with them,” said Kennedy.
Kennedy also told us to make sure when you salt your side walks that it is done with safe salt and always remember to wipe off your pets paws so they don’t get abrasions.
“The biggest thing with safety during the winter is outside pets needs to be housed properly. We want to make sure that there is straw in their kennels, not blankets. The blankets get wet and then they freeze, then there is nothing wet for pets to lay on,” said Kennedy.
