ZANESVILLE, Ohio- One local organization thanked their volunteers today.

The Salvation Army hosted their volunteers this evening with a banquet dinner. Along with the dinner, the event featured a guest speaker as well as the presentation of the volunteer of the year award. Director, George Bates, explains the award is named after one mans long time dedication to the Salvation Army.

“Every year for the past four years we like to honor our volunteers and so four years ago we came up with the idea, we named it the Richard E Dittmar volunteer of the year award because of Mr. Dittmar, he had served with us for over 40 years so we just thought it would be a nice honor for him.”

Bates announced the volunteer of the year is Lee Butch Wilson.

“He comes in and gives of his time his talents his money. We are blessed to know him and he has helped us tremendously. So we wanted to honor him tonight.”

Bates notes without the help of so many volunteers Salvation Army would not be able to serve the community.
