ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum and Perry Counties have experienced several rounds of intense thunderstorms during the month of August that have provided an abundance of flood damages.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce President Dana Matz announced an upcoming visit by the Small Business Administration, who will meet with local business leaders to share disaster recovery options that are available for area businesses needing assistance.

“The Regional Small Business Administration reached out to us,” Matz said. “Most people know them as the SBA. The SBA works with our local banks and this meeting is because of all the flooding in Muskingum and Perry County. So we’re working with the Perry County Chamber of Commerce, we’re working with the Muskingum and Perry County EMAs and Commissioners to get the information out that local businesses that have been affected by the flooding.” Matz said. “And this is an opportunity to learn about their disaster relief programs.”

The first wave of severe storms brought tornadoes through southern Muskingum County. The second and third wave of storms devastated towns along Jonathan and Moxahala Creeks, before a fourth wave brought unexpected flooding to parts of Zanesville.

“As a business owner, you’ve been affected by the flooding, a lot of businesses didn’t have flood insurance,” Matz said. “Not every business is aware of the SBA and the loan programs that there offer. And this is an arm of the SBA, this is their disaster relief arm. And so we’re just very happy they’ve reached out, they’ll be coming to town. There’s been all kinds of wonderful relief efforts for the families and homes that were affected but this is directly related to the businesses that have been affected by the flooding.”

The SBA seminar will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, September 4th, at EagleSticks Golf Club, located at 2655 Maysville Pike.
