Scam Involving Licking Co. Sheriff’s Office

Heath Police are investigating a report of someone portraying to be from the Licking County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said on October 14, a citizen was called and told they had an arrest warrant for failing to appear for jury duty. The resident was instructed to purchase two rechargeable cards totaling $1,350 and to supply the caller with the numbers.

The citizen was told the money would be entered into the system and would be returned once they appeared for their hearing in front of Judge Branstool the following Monday.

A phone call was made to the number and contact was made with an unknown subject claiming to be with the Licking County Sheriff’s Office. When questioned the subject became verbally aggressive and used profanity.

Anyone who has or does receive a phone call similar is encouraged to contact your local authorities immediately.

Heath Police said to never give personal information away and do not send money to anyone you don’t know.
