ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County undergraduates in need of scholarships can apply for two to be used this coming year.

The Muskingum County Community Foundation is accepting applications for The Charles and Mary Lou Heck Educational Scholarship and the The Forest M. and Meryl C. Cale Scholarship. Educational Assistant Katie McCarty said these scholarships are for anyone who’s finished their first year of college.

“[The Charles and Mary Lou Heck Educational Scholarship] is for undergraduate and graduate students,” McCarty said. “So anyone who’s going for their graduate degree can apply for this one, which is kind of rare for some scholarships in our area. So we like to get that one out as much as possible. Where [The Forest M. and Meryl C. Cale Scholarship] graduates can apply for it as well, but it mainly goes towards undergraduate students.”

The amount given depends on how many applications are accepted and how much funding is available. From there the scholarship winners will receive money for the 2017-2018 school year.

“They will receive half the scholarship in the fall and the other half they’ll get in the winter,” McCarty said. “So they’re required to submit their grades and their schedule for the following semester. So that we know they’re continuing and we can kind of check on them and see how they’re doing.”

The application deadline for both scholarships is July 15, 2017. Students can get more information and only apply online at mccf.org
