SEAT requesting money at City Council
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- South East Area Transit requested money during a packed Zanesville City Council meeting.
City Council was busier than usual in part because a Cub Scouts troop was present. The Pledge of Allegiance is recited to start every council meeting and for this meeting troop 128 of the Cub Scouts led the pledge. President of Council Daniel Vincent also took time to explain major steps of the voting process to the scouts. What the cub scouts heard being discussed at city council was SEAT Transit Director Howard Stewart requesting $80,000.
“Generally we ask for $80,000 of coarse we will take anything that they’ll give us. That just adds to our local match that we need. We have a $3 million budget and we’ve got to come up with 50 percent of that,” said Stewart.
Stewart said the money is necessary because it allows a cost efficient and safe way for people to travel around the area.
“Individuals use public transportation to get to medical appointment,s to the grocery store, so they have a social life. You can get from the southern part of the city down at Wal-Mart south Zanesville to the north point for a dollar. So it’s an economical way of traveling,” said Stewart.
The City Council is taking the request under advisement and the next meeting will be November 6th.
