Second Annual Zombie 5K Run/Walk

Second Annual Zombie 5k Run/walk

Zombies were seen chasing runners all over Infirmary Mound Park in Granville today.

The United Way of Licking County hosted its second annual zombie 5k run/walk this afternoon. Registration was $30 for runners and there was a small fee for zombies who wanted help with their costume make-up. United Way outreach director, Luellen Deeds explained how the zombie race works.

"So the zombies, they come, we had an offering of doing the make-up for them if they wanted to, many came already dressed. They’re gonna be going after the runners who will be wearing like a flag football type belt, and the goal is for them to get as many flags as possible and if you lose a flag as runner, that’s adding five seconds on to your time."

The runners consisted of Licking County residents and even a few students from area track teams. After the race there was a "best looking zombie" contest with a first, second and third place prize.

"This is our second year, last year we had a lot of people say, "are you gonna do that again?" and we hope they have as much fun this year and continue to get involved in united way programs and some of the fundraisers that we’re doing."

All proceeds benefit the United Way to help support programs within Licking County.
