Select Medical-Zanesville Open House

In November 2013 Select Specialty Hospital-Zanesville received both their Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke Program Designation.
In order to receive the designation status, the staff conducted a formal application process. Thursday, they celebrated the programs success with a formal open house.
“Today we are celebrating that Select Medical, which is a group of over 100 Hospitals and really our parent company, has awarded us a designation as a Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury Center,” said SSH CEO, Linda Supplee. “So, what that means for the community is that patients who have had a traumatic brain injury, or have experienced stroke don’t have to go into larger metropolitan areas for continuation of their acute hospitalization. They can come to our hospitals.”
In order to maintain these designations the hospitals had to go through an extremely difficult process. The staff received specialty training, educational classes, and had to achieve competence in every area.
“I have 13 hospitals in my region,” said SSH Regional President, Megan Schmidt. “This is only the second one to get this designation. So it’s very exciting for us to have this in a rural location and we’re able to provide this kind of expertise.”
The Select Specially Hospital is currently located on the 6th floor of the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital building, and is a 35 bed hospital. When asked where the Specialty Hospital will relocate to as Good Samaritan moves to their new building, Supplee said she was unable to comment on the relocation plan at this time. An announcement on the plan is expected in around two weeks.
