Sen. Bernie Moreno visits Crooksville after historic flood

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio – Senator Bernie Moreno visited Crooksville Wednesday morning to see the extent of the flood damage for himself.
The Republican senator is voicing a strong desire for a national declaration of a state of emergency and says he would call President Donald Trump if the situation requires it. A national declaration would open up additional finances and resources to help with the ongoing recovery effort.
“Our team has been monitoring this very carefully. We have people all over Ohio. Our Ohio team has been on this already,” Moreno said. “Huge props to Congressman Troy Balderson. He got here immediately. His team has been working. We worked together, also, with Senator Husted’s team, with the governor’s administration. The chief of staff- we just had a call with this morning with my Ohio chief of staff. Total coordination. This is Team Ohio helping Ohioans. This is what we expect when we pay taxes.”
Before Moreno left the Crooksville Fire Department to see the donation and distribution efforts at the Old Roseville School, he shared one of his greatest takeaways from the situation.
“This is neighbors helping neighbors. This is people who are, they don’t care who you’re from or what you believe in or what you don’t believe in. This is just Ohioans helping Ohioans,” Moreno said. “So people watching this, if you want to help, go on and make a contribution to the Red Cross. They’re here on site. We got the Ohio National Guard. These are volunteers that are here to make things happen. So, as much as this tragedy’s awful and horrific and I can’t even imagine what these families are going through, it does bring out the best side of what we are as Americans, which is to help each other out.”
You can also make contributions through the Muskingum County Community Foundation and the Community Foundation for Perry County. Donations of resources like food, water, and hygene supplies can be dropped off at the Old Roseville School, located at 74 West Athens Road in Roseville.
