Senator Moreno visits Genesis Healthcare System in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Senator Bernie Moreno visited Genesis Healthcare System Monday evening, as part of his tour across the state to talk about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Accompanied by Zanesville Mayor Don Mason and U.S. Representative Troy Balderson, Moreno discussed how the bill impacts healthcare. He also took the time to point out the importance of rural healthcare providers like Genesis.

“These hospitals in our rural communities are essential to our communities and look, operating a hospital in Zanesville is a lot harder than operating a hospital in Columbus. The occupancy situation is very different and these hospitals are under enormous stress already,” Moreno said.

While discussing the impact of the bill on Medicaid, Moreno explained the newly created rural hospital fund and the specific benefit to the state of Ohio.

“My favorite part of it, I think your favorite part of it, is our rural hospital fund. We created something new,” Moreno said.  “Now, when Democrats had control of government, they didn’t create a rural hospital fund. We did. Now it’s $50 billion, which Ohio will probably get somewhere around $2 billion of that. ”

Moreno finished his speech by saying his priorities are to make the rural hospital fund permanent instead of the 5-year run it is currently set for.
