September Encourages Hitting the Mat
September is National Yoga Month, so we thought we’d find out why so many people are taking to the mat.
While it doesn’t look like a rigorous workout, the benefits of yoga are numerous. The practice, which began in India offers many physical, and mental incentives.
"Combines the mind, body, and soul, and you can’t really get that in any other type of workout. You can have a spiritual experience, you can have a purely physical experience with yoga. I think that draws in so many people from so many walks of life," says Movement on Main yoga instructor, Janelle Bonfour-Mikes.
According to Bonfour-Mikes, yoga can help someone lose weight, and even lower their blood pressure.
"It involves everything. You can sit there and stretch for an hour and 15 minutes. You can meditate for an hour and 15 minutes, or you can do power yoga and really get that strength workout with it. It just combines everything."
Movement on Main in downtown Zanesville offers yoga classes. To view the schedule, you can visit their Website at www.movementonmain.net.
