Seven Transported in Muti-car Accident
Sergeant Jon McCoy with the Zanesville Police Department said that just before 7 p.m. ZPD was dispatched to Maple Ave. for a multi-car injury accident. When police arrived, McCoy said he discovered four cars involved in the accident.
McCoy said it appears a Mustang traveling southbound on Maple may have experienced a vehicular malfunction which caused the brakes to fail.
The driver failed to stop at a red light at the Maple and Locust Ave. intersection, striking a car coming from Locust to Maple. The Mustang then continued onward to strike a Pontiac headed northbound which was pushed almost 60 ft. and came to a stop on Sheridan.
The Mustang was then struck by a GMC traveling northbound on Maple and came to a final stop.
At this time, McCoy said it is confirmed that 7 people were transported in connection to the crash. It’s unclear how many passengers were in each vehicle, and names are not yet being released.
ZPD was assisted by the Zanesville Fire Department, Falls Twp. Fire Department, Genesis EMS, and the State Highway Patrol was called in to help with the inspection of the Mustang.
