Several People Arrested In Perry County Drug Investigations

PERRY COUNTY, Ohio – Perry County Sheriff’s Office released information on the recent drug arrests in New Straitsville and Crooksville.

New Straitsville

On August 7, 2019, the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two people passed out in a vehicle at an ATV trail head off of State Route 595 in the New Straitsville area. Hocking County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle in the Wayne National Forest just inside Perry County. When they approached, the driver, later identified as Jason Newsome, he fled from the vehicle and into the woods. The vehicle was found to have been reported stolen from Hebron, Ohio. A search of the area was conducted but the driver was not found. The female, identified as 31 year old Crysta D. Tharp was arrested on outstanding warrants from Athens County. A search of the vehicle yielded bulk amounts of heroin that were packaged for sale.

On August 16, 2019, Agents from the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force conducted a search at the property located at 8588 Old Town Road / New Straitsville, Ohio after a vehicle that was reported to have been involved in drug sales at a local business was found there. During the search, Jason Newsome was found on the property and attempted to flee. Task Force Agents were able to apprehend Newsome in the woods behind the property. Newsome was found to have a large amount of methamphetamine on his person that was packaged for sale. He was arrested on outstanding warrants issued out of Muskingum County. Charges relating to the drugs and stolen vehicle remain under investigation.

Crooksville

On August 18, 2019 , Perry County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brandon Eveland was on patrol in the Crooksville area when he located a 22 year old male slumped over the wheel of an ATV parked in the lot of the Southside Carry Out on Ceramic Road. Lifesaving efforts were performed on the male until EMS arrived and he was transported to the Genesis Emergency Department in Somerset. The CODE Task Force was contacted and through an investigation conducted by Task Force Agents, 22 year old Tyler R. Sprankle was arrested on charges of Corrupting Another with Drugs – a second degree felony and Aggravated Drug Trafficking – a fourth degree felony as he is alleged to have provided the drugs to the victim. A search of Sprankle’s residence located at 13102 Township Road 477 / Crooksville, Ohio yielded methamphetamine and a large sum of currency. Sprankle is being held in the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
