ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A state route maybe under construction in the coming months.

The Muskingum County Sewer Department met with the County Commissioners to discuss repairing the pipes on State Route 719. The Sewer Department Manager, Kenny Beisser, says previous breaks in the pipe are of concern.

“We currently have a project going on on State Route 719 putting a new force main in for our South Avenue lift station. Here within the past couple of days we found out that the existing force main that was going to connect into has deteriorated over the years. The line has had four breaks in it and has been repaired so now we’re questioning the integrity of the pipe. So now we are looking to replace it.”

Beisser says they still have to get approval from South Zanesville and Springfield Township before the project can take off. Beisser estimates the project will cost between $1.2 and $1.3 million.

“We will be coming up Pembroke Avenue. Go through June Parkway. So far, that’s the plan. Still waiting on some more approvals from South Zanesville and Springfield Township.”

Beisser hopes to begin the project in March if it is approved. He says the work will cause some lane closures, but residents and businesses in the area won’t lose water service during the construction.
